THE SIX BOXES® MODEL – THE SYSTEMS VIEW
Now that we’ve linked what people do to what the organization wants to accomplish by identifying what they need to produce (the Performance Chain), we can identify and coordinate all the factors that affect a change in behavior, what we call behavior influences.
Behavior influences comprise the far-left link in the Performance Chain, the enablers of human performance.
The challenge in any organization is to determine what combination of behavior influences are most likely to produce desired changes in behavior, to establish and accelerate it. The list can be very long, and investments made to change behavior often come from many different parts of the organization.
The Six Boxes® Model is a comprehensive categorization of these influences, based on over 60 years of basic behavior science, simplified into six easy-to-remember “boxes.” We use this plain English model to teach leaders, managers, and performance professionals how to think systemically when identifying factors that currently enable or obstruct behavior, when planning for new behavior or programs, and when working on continuous improvement or development. It allows us to coordinate all behavior influences for maximum impact.
Balancing and tuning the system of behavior influences that affects any given behavior is how we achieve maximum return on investments that the organization makes in people. Choices of which steps to take (Do they need training? Would a bonus be motivating? Should we provide a coach?) are better understood and addressed when the whole picture of influences is understood. Often, additions of inexpensive programs or simple changes in management are discovered and bring greater impact.
Sharing the Six Boxes Model across levels and functions in an organization leads to a shared understanding and coordinated implementation of all interventions. Organizations can often dramatically improve productivity and profitability per employee while increasing employee engagement by using the Six Boxes Model as the foundation for performance planning and performance improvement.
The Performance Thinking® Coach program lays down a simple foundation for leaders and managers, enabling them to use the models and process of Performance Thinking to identify opportunities for development in their people and provide ongoing coaching 1:1 for them to expand and improve their capability as individual contributors. The program has the potential for driving agile talent development through a regular cadence of coaching of individuals by those who manage and lead them.
Our Performance Thinking® Leadership Modules build on the foundation established by our accomplishment based coaching program, enabling leaders to apply Performance Thinking to drive continuous performance improvement as they take on responsibility for groups, departments, business units or whole enterprises.
The modules can be selected, customized, and sequenced to meet the needs of each organization or group of leaders, and cover applications such as:
- Leading Continuous Talent Development
- Aligning People Performance with Business Results
- Managing Performance in Processes
- Creating Employee Engagement Plans
- Executing Strategy Through People
- Planning for Implementation / Change Management
- Ensuring Positive Performance Management
- Using Skip Level Meetings to Improve Management Practices
- Enabling Best Practices in Sales Performance
- and more…
The Perennial Truth Foundation offers to certify individuals and professionals to deliver our exclusive programs to their local community. Once certified as a program facilitator, the individual or organization that employs the certified facilitator, can facilitate our programs
Program Facilitators teach the programs using our materials. Program Coaches help program participants apply what they learn on the job, and sometimes help Program Facilitators work with individuals during instructional sessions. We always certify Program Facilitators as Program Coaches, as well. But one may become a certified Program Coach without being a Program Facilitator.
Most companies that deliver our programs internally certify one or more individuals to serve as both Program Facilitators and Program Coaches. As the scope of implementation increases, organizations may choose to have more Program Coaches than Facilitators, to provide ongoing support to the community of practice created and nurtured by our programs. Individual consultants or small consulting groups can also become certified to deliver our programs as part of an Affiliate (link to that program) relationship with The Performance Thinking Network.
It is generally more difficult to coach program participants than to facilitate the instructional components of our programs. A certified Program Coach must be able to handle “anything the participant throws at them,” and to help them apply Performance Thinking tools and logic to a wide range of situations and cases. Thus, whether becoming certified as a Program Facilitator/Coach, or simply as a Program Coach, Program Coach certification generally takes more time.
Our certification process is rigorous, based partly on the behavior of the individual being certified, but more on the products of that behavior, i.e., program participants who can apply what our programs teach and can demonstrate that by producing the various work outputs that our programs teach them to create. Certified Program Facilitators and Coaches demonstrate that they can enable others to produce artifacts such as lists of organization level business results, work outputs that meet guidelines in the program, descriptions of behavior at the right level of detail, analyses and configurations of behavior influences to support needed behavior, and so on.
The list of requirements for certification varies with the program one is being certified to deliver. Certification candidates generally complete a series of three program deliveries, in which they co-deliver with a Master Program Facilitator/Coach and assume greater responsibility for each successive program. We provide a Certification Guide that specifies requirements, and we assign a Master Program Facilitator/Coach for each certification candidate.

THE PERFORMANCE THINKING® COACH PROGRAM
Our Coach-Manage-Lead programs enable leaders and managers to become agents of ongoing talent development and continuous performance improvement. The greatest opportunity for embedding research-based performance improvement in your organization is to enable all those who coach, manage or lead others to accelerate employee performance and resultsusing Six Boxes Performance Thinking.
We see Performance Thinking as an engine for Servant Leadership. We think coaches, managers, and leaders can arrange conditions to optimize both the productivity and the well-being of the people whom they coach, manage, and lead.
The simplicity and plain language of the Performance Chain and the Six Boxes Model appeal to managers and business leaders who don’t want any fluff. With a lean set of tools customized to match your organization, our Coach-Manage-Lead Family of programs enables you to build performance improvement “from the inside out” by means of performance-focused management, leadership and coaching practices and tools.
Our programs are different because they teach your managers, leaders and coaches to talk aboutperformance and the factors that support in a form that is actionable and precise. Most programs teach the soft skills for how to speak with individuals and teams, which is important. But that is not the same as knowing exactly what to discuss – clearly defined performance and the conditions needed to optimize results.
Objectives
- to measurably accelerate business results by improving the performance and engagement of employees through improved coaching and management
- to establish a shared understanding for both tenured and new leaders and managers about human performance and what drives it, as a foundation for ongoing management and leadership development
- to configure a company-specific, longitudinal leadership and management development curriculum combining existing programs and custom training modules, plus coaching, and
- to build a team of internal coaches who support ongoing collaboration and refinement of coaching, leadership and management processes, tools, and culture across the organization.
If combined with The Six Boxes Practitioner Program for HR, OD, training, process improvement or other staff professionals, these programs enable staff and line management to collaborate using a common language and framework to improve business results.
For more detail, please download our Coach-Manage-Lead Program product sheet.
TOP-DOWN AND INSIDE OUT – A PERFORMANCE-BASED CULTURE
The power of performance thinking can accelerate results at any level, from the individual manager working to develop his team , to teams of staff focused on specific projects, to executive leadership where understanding how the upside potential for improving results through people can lead to smarter strategy and execution.
We can influence your organization at any level — from the top down, from the inside out, or coming from both directions to meet in the middle. One of our fans, the retired CEO of a major Korean electronics firm, suggests that there is a “tipping point” for driving performance deeply into organizational cultures. He argues that if we can enable as many as 20% of those in a company to share Performance Thinking from the top down and from the inside out, we should be able to accomplish remarkable breakthroughs in business results by connecting top-down strategy to bottoms-up tactics and daily operations. Six Boxes Performance Thinking is a simple but powerful vehicle for getting everyone pointing in the same direction with the same understanding of goals and how to achieve them through people.
Whether or not his specific number is correct, the potential for accelerating organizational results through Six Boxes Performance Thinking is clear. We hope that our clients will see, step-by-step, no matter where they first decide to introduce Six Boxes Performance Thinking, that creating a community of shared thinking and results-oriented action offers the enormous power of connecting people to business results. from WithiYour Body Speaks Your Mind. As a Reiki Master, Karen offers Self Diagnosis and Self Healing training, that focus on the main energy channels for healing the body. This first module educates the Self Awareness Coach (SAC) on a structured program that allows employees to identify with and take responsibility for their physical health and vitality from source. In addition, with her expertise in natural herbal products and bio-resonance assessments, Karen offers a concise table of natural therapies for additional healing.
PERFORMANCE THINKING® INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT
The Six Boxes® Model gives individuals a way to ask for what they need, to proactively plan their own development, and to become self-directed on their career and personal development paths.
We recommend that organizations that want to put development in the hands of their employees discuss with us how best to customize our tools and performance development process to teach their people how to take control of their own destiny.
Our Coach-Manage-Lead programs encourage those who manage and lead people to collaborate with them as they pinpoint accomplishments for development or improvement and discuss possible action steps for accelerating performance. This is not something that managers or leaders “do to their people.” It’s a process for continuous individual improvement, at the point of performance.
Going one step further, our Six Boxes® Individual Self Development framework hands all or part of performance development planning over to the individual, sometimes in an organization where there is a mix of self-development and collaborative development using Six Boxes Performance Coaching.
We also recommend this approach for organizations that help individuals between jobs, or young people entering the work force, to define their own paths for continuous improvement and then ask for what they need.
Contact us if you’d like to explore this new approach to self-directed performance development, and see how it might fit your organizational culture or extend your current agile talent development effortThe Perennial Truth offers a road map of understanding our archetypes and who we are, thus freeing one’s self from the attachment of pain and suffering. The nature of our personas is to cling to the negative and this drains our energy levels. Through personalised archetype assessment profiles, employees can understand themselves better and improve their relationships with their colleagues and family members. Self Understanding promotes acceptance of oneself.
Introducing Performance Thinking® into an organization offers the potential for changing the conversation about organizational and individual performance, and establishing a culture of continuous performance improvement.
Establishing, strengthening, and sustaining performance improvement requires people able to lead and continuously improve the effort. It requires an organization to establish and support Champions and Masterful Performance Consultants. Building a Performance Thinking culture requires planning with a systematic but flexible approach over time.
We want to work with organizations to optimize ROI by maximizing the value we deliver in our Performance Thinking® programs and support. We want to help you accelerate business results by optimizing productivity and employee engagement. Once you’ve invested in our Practitioner Program, we want to help that initial team become fluent in their application of Performance Thinking and its tools.
In this program we work with a team of Performance Thinking® Practitioners and their leadership to identify important projects for stakeholders, as well as projects to improve their own performance as a team or department. We then support the team for a year through ongoing coaching, helping to spread the word, and building conditions for sustainment and viral change, driving the shared vocabulary and “logic” of Performance Thinking across the enterprise. The effects are multiplicative.
This is a highly customizable program that we tailor to your needs. It offers an opportunity to strengthen and sustain impact, over time, with support based on our experience and the experience of our clients and Affiliates.
The Building Performance Thinking® Culture Program promises to:
- help your Performance Thinking Practitioners make a large sustainable impact
- ensure they can communicate about and advocate for performance improvement in language and at a level of detail that is effective for different groups of stakeholders
- build the language and logic of Performance Thinking into policies, procedures, processes, tools, and day-to-day conversation
- optionally, to prepare one or more Certified Performance Thinking Practitioners to facilitate and/or coach either the Performance Thinking Practitioner Program or our Performance Thinking Coach Program.
We work with you to configure the best solution for you. We start with a bare bones planning and implementation process using our Implementation Planning Checklist, and extend our support to more robust and ongoing collaboration for teaching, coaching, supporting, and sustaining Performance Thinking across your enterprise.
When asked in an interview what she would say to her executive peers about Performance Thinking, the Chief Culture Officer and SVP of Talent at a healthcare technology company said:
“For me, it’s a business imperative. If you want to align performance and you want an organization to perform effectively, then I don’t think you can be successful without a model that’s simple, and easy to follow, and practical. So I don’t think you can be as successful as you could be if you don’t have Performance Thinking in your tool kit.”
With organizations that choose to implement any of our programs, we want to talk with leadership about what it takes to produce and sustain performance improvement, and to collaborate in the planning process to maximize their return on investment.
Contact The Performance Thinking Network to learn more about how we could work with you.

EXECUTIVE COACHING SERVICE
For individual executives and senior leaders, we offer a unique form of Executive Coaching in-person or via web conference.
Performance Thinking® Executive Coaching focuses on performance, defined as the valuable accomplishments or contributions that leaders and their people make to the organization, the business results they advance, and the best ways to optimize those contributions. Our approach enables leaders to look at their own performance, and at the performance of the people whom they lead and manage, to identify and leverage opportunities for continuous improvement, to accelerate results.
As a senior leader, it’s hard to get honest feedback. 360° feedback is often just refined opinion, and not specific enough to help sharpen one’s capabilities. Even after helpful feedback it’s often difficult to find substantive development or improvement opportunities for executives who are already highly skilled. Improvements must be fine-tuned for them.
These are among the reasons that many executives engage Executive Coaches—to provide honest feedback, to take an objective view, to offer a sounding board, and to help develop, improve, or change behavior for the better. Executive Coaches help their clients in countless ways, especially when the coaches are both business savvy and insightful about human behavior. They can engage leaders in open-ended discussions aimed at identifying issues and coming up with solutions and changes to improve capabilities and advance careers.
But there are some questions that don’t typically come up in an executive coaching session, questions that go to the heart of leadership effectiveness and impact. They include:
- Do you know how your specific contributions link to desired business results?
- Could you safely delegate any of your contributions, to get them off your plate?
- How do you prioritize the time and bandwidth you devote to various activities?
- Where do you have greatest leverage in the processes to which you contribute?
- What are the best ways that you can accelerate results through your team?
- How can you maximize engagement and positivity in your organization?
Executive Coaches don’t always have crisp, reliable ways to frame and help answer questions like these. They are good at knowing how to conduct coaching conversations, but they often lack a framework for what to discuss. Performance Thinking® Executive Coaching provides a roadmap for conversations intended to optimize the value that leaders contribute to their organizations.
How Does This Unique form of Executive Coaching Work?
We begin by offering a brief overview of Performance Thinking models and language, and then dive into discussion about the executive’s valuable contributions. As the process unfolds, we look closely at direct reports, teams, processes and organizations, seeking opportunities to accelerate business results through the performance of those people. This may evolve into an ongoing dialog that clarifies and prioritizes the value that executives and their teams deliver, and seeks to continuously improve productivity and engagement across the enterprise.
How Can I Check it Out?
Some Affiliates of The Performance Thinking Network offer initial sessions of of Executive Coaching free of charge. This offers a no risk opportunity to experience this unique form of coaching, and to see its value for one’s self. After an initial 60-90 minute session, executives can make an informed decision about if and how to continue.

WHY IT MATTERS
Organizations worldwide are challenged with accelerating results while at the same time ensuring that their people are engaged as well as productive. The discoveries of behavior science and performance engineering offer solutions to these challenges, but only if those solutions are accessible for leaders, managers, and staff responsible for improving organizational performance. This cannot just be for “performance improvement nerds.”
Using two simple but powerful models — The Performance Chain and The Six Boxes — and a straightforward logic , we can help you get everyone in your organization thinking about performance for higher impact. It doesn’t have to be just for experts anymore. And rather than add cost, you’ll learn how to leverage smart investments in people for the greatest return.
“We’re implementing the Six Boxes approach across our global organization. It’s amazing how performance thinking is starting to take hold from our executive team down to front-line managers. We’re seeing a big pay-off in terms of employee satisfaction and manager performance.”

We pack our magical kit of crystals with us to allow a quicker and deeper process of healing at the workplace. SOS integrates alternative healing in the workplace. Each employee gets a gemstone to keep at their desk to allow continued healing and calm allowing them full attention on their tasks.
Depending on the office rules, if we are able to make a little noise for around 15 min, the session closes with a vibrational sound bath with Tibetan singing bowls. The sound vibrational seals the healing done for the session and helps channel a balanced state of being for mental and emotional wellness.
As a child with Autism Spectrum Disorder and suffering from severe asthma, and deafness, Tjaart Kruger battled to fit in socially with other kids when he was young. Needless to say he hardly had any friends and this led him towards an introverted behaviour of striving to be the best at everything so that maybe people would accept him and want to be his friend. But this did not work, instead creating more inner tension resulting in a deep desire to understand social interaction during early adulthood. When western psychology did not provide him with the answers he was searching for, the east directed him towards a higher understanding of his true self gifting him with the Maha Khala Meditation technique. Karen Kruger has been a lifelong student of the Truth and in her first encounters with Tjaart she knew he would lead her to her own Self Awakening. Karen facilitates the Employee Wellness Retreats at their Meditation Sanctuary in Carlswald, Midrand and Tjaart offers his expertise as a Key Note Speaker on Wellness in the corporate sector.
Tjaart has dedicated his life to the pursuit of understanding himself and the existential experiences of life which can be read in his publication The Perennial Truth – Awakening of the Soul. After over 21 years of practicing meditation for 3 to 4 hours a day, Tjaart was gifted, through his samadhi experience, a tool that helped him stop his thoughts at will and discover the unlimited potential of the present moment. A further decade later Tjaart now releases the Six Stage Maha Khala ToolKit for anyone interested in mastering their mind and elevating their meditation practices.
“Understanding fosters Acceptance. My hope is to offer humanity an understanding of who they are. From my own childhood struggles and social challenges throughout my adulthood, I finally discovered the beauty of life and the source of my happiness. This self realisation has brought a sense of freedom and joy that one cannot explain unless it is experienced for yourself.” TLB Kruger

Karen and Tjaart have dedicated their higher purpose in serving the awakening of humanity with the guidance of their ascended masters in the lineage of Samaya Tantra (which has oneness as the root of its teachings). Their vision is to inspire one to re-discover their True Self and unapologetically live the best versions of their self whilst re-connecting with their inner spiritual journey. Every employee is an individual in search for Happiness, Purpose and Balance. School of Samaya offers a holistic approach to workplace wellness by integrating spirituality in our modern day lives through Self Awareness techniques for physical vitality, mental health, emotional wellbeing and spiritual understanding. School of Samaya is non denominational and has oneness as it’s foundational value. We are all made in the image of God and Love is at the core of our very being. Self Awareness in the Workplace
WHO IS THE SELF?
The Self refers to an individual person as the object of its own reflective consciousness. This person is able to look back on themselves as both subjects and objects in this cosmic creation without judgement, attachment or identification. As we move deeper into the digital age of Aquarius, both capitalism and technology impacts our ability to step beyond the objective world. Self Inquiry and Self Observation, is at the core of School of Samaya’s teachings in understanding who we are and re-discovering the nature of our own importance in this universe, thereby allowing our Individual Self (the Ego) to realise it’s original essence, the True Self.
WHAT IS AWARENESS?
Awareness is the state of being conscious of something from all three levels of one’s being (physical, mental and emotional). More specifically, it is the ability to directly (without judgement) know and perceive, to feel, and to be cognizant of events, situations or interactions with others. Awareness is a state wherein an individual is aware of some information when that information is directly available in the present moment which brings to bear the direction of a wide range of, non emotional and non judgmental, behavioral actions. The concept is often synonymous to consciousness and is also understood as being consciousness itself. The states of awareness are also associated with the states of experience so that the structure represented in awareness is mirrored in the structure of experience.
WHY IS SELF AWARENESS IN THE WORKPLACE NECESSARY?
If this global pandemic has taught us anything, it is the realisation of how disconnected we are from our True Self. We have been conditioned into believing that the social actor or rather corporate apostle, is more important than allowing employees to connect with and accept their true selves, which in turn has exploded the issues of mental health in the workplace, leaving companies scurrying for short term solutions to deal with the human relations issues rather than reassessing the long term cultural objectives of the organisation. In addition, the hybrid working conditions and new norm of balancing work, home and inner sanctum has left employees physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually drained, living from a survival mode of fulfilling their physiological and safety needs only rather than a holistic lifestyle approach that promotes the best version of themselves. We forget that employees are people too and these people spend more time serving the needs of your organisation with some even sacrificing the wellbeing of their home environment. School of Samaya’s objective is to be the destination for a holistic approach to employee wellness that educates, empowers and enables individuals with the understanding, knowledge, resources and support to live the best version of their life through the best version of themselves. Being authentic in the workplace, should be the new normal in light of the calamity that has shaken the world and it starts with Self Awareness.
I met Tjaart Kruger 18 years ago, as we trained together to become Art of Living teachers. We were a handful of young people searching to experience Divinity. Budding in my own spirituality, I became very aware that this young dashing Afrikaner boy, driving a two door car, with all the girls oogling at him; knew so much about life, was layered with ancient wisdom from the spiritual masters, & clearly secrets of the universe were already revealled to him. For lack of a better expression, he was way ahead of the pack, and his thirst to know himself & Divinty was always something very palpable in our conversations. His interpretation of the ancient word is most refreshing & his courage to live his Truth, stands testament to who he really is. At the outset of his journey with writing, we had a most wonderful conversation about how to encapsulate all the beauty & wonder of Divinty that was flowing through him….I look forward to being part of Tjaart’s continued journey.
The Performance Thinking Network grows by working with clients to implement our programs in their organizations, and through Affiliates who are individual consultants or firms that choose to integrate one or more Performance Thinking® programs into offerings for their clients.
An Affiliate may start a relationship with us as a Sales Affiliate, offering our programs in the marketplace in exchange for a finder’s fee from The Performance Thinking Network. However, our preferred Affiliate relationships are with individuals and organizations that already successfully sell and deliver their own services into markets where our programs can also add value. Typical examples are those who serve the sales enablement, process improvement, or applied behavior analysis markets where our programs can offer valuable extensions of Affiliates’ consulting or development work with clients. Our programs can also provide “a foot in the door” for Affiliates in some situations, who can later offer additional products and services.
Affiliate Certification occurs when one or more individuals within an Affiliate organization become certified (link to program facilitator/coach certification page) to deliver Performance Thinking (PTN) Programs. This enables the Affiliate to generate substantial revenue for themselves with support from PTN, in exchange for a per-participant licensing fee paid to PTN.
